How it's worked out

Pace on a Concept2 monitor is the time it takes to row 500 metres, so the calculator scales your time to 500m (time ÷ distance × 500) and works backwards the same way when you ask for a time or a distance. For example, to row 2,000m in 6:32 you need a 500m split of 1:38.

Watts use Concept2's formula, watts = 2.80 ÷ (pace ÷ 500)³ with pace in seconds. Because power rises with the cube of speed, taking two seconds off a 1:50 split needs more than three times the extra power of taking two seconds off a 2:30 split.
