Schools Indoor Rowing League

Fundraise · 2 to 13 November

Row for BBC Children in Need this November.

From 2 to 13 November, schools, clubs and workplaces are rowing to raise money for BBC Children in Need. Pick any distance and any format, in PE, at the gym, or across the office. Every pound your school, club or workplace raises goes towards the national total.

Two weeks, any distance, any format

How your school takes part is up to you. Some classes run a Row the Channel relay in PE, some add up every pupil’s metres over the fortnight, and some put the staff up against the pupils. All you need is an indoor rower, a donation page and those two weeks in November. Gyms run leaderboard challenges, workplaces row at lunch, clubs add it to training.

How it works

  1. An organiser crouched with a tablet, showing the registration form to a gym-goer, a pupil in PE kit and a club rower, rowing machines behind them

    Register your row

Set up a fundraising page for your school on JustGiving or GiveWheel, then register it with us. Once you have the link, the form takes about a minute.

  2. A pupil in PE kit pulling hard on an indoor rower as a teammate crouches beside them shouting encouragement

    Row

Row any time between 2 and 13 November, in lessons, at lunch or after school, as a relay, a class total or a staff versus pupils race.

  3. Pupils in PE kit dropping coins into a large collection jar on a table in the sports hall

    Raise

Share your page with parents, colleagues or members. Every donation counts towards your school’s total and the national figure on the campaign leaderboard.

Not a school?

The row is open to anyone with an indoor rower and a fortnight in November. Workplaces, gyms and clubs register the same way schools do, and you go on the leaderboard in your own category, so nobody is ranked against a Year 5 class.

Register your row
  • Row at lunch

Put a rower in the corner for the fortnight and add up everyone’s lunch-break metres on a total pinned to the wall.

  • Staff versus staff

Split the office into teams and see who covers the most metres by 13 November.

  • Gym leaderboard challenge

Pick a distance, put a board up by the rowers and let your members chase each other down it for two weeks.

  • 24-hour relay

Keep one machine moving for a full day in shifts, which fits neatly into a club training session.
